To all the mothers that come across this page…

I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day!

I’ll be spending most of mine yelling at my kids because they keep running back and forth and squealing.

Damn you, Word Press and your new layout.

I had a post typed out, but then I noticed I was writing a new page instead of a new post.  And then I deleted it without thinking, although it’s probably saved in a draft and I could just copy it.  Nah…I won’t.

Basically, David got a new phone today.  A Moto Q.  It’s cool.  I decided I want one, but now I’ve decided I don’t.  (Because I really think I want an iPhone…and I really hope that the $199 iPhone rumor is true).

Anyway, I ordered a pair of shorts from Old Navy.  As much as I love summer, I hate having to buy shorts because they’re always too short or too long.  I’m not a fan of the capri pants either, but these crops, that are like a shorter or tighter capri I guess, seem okay.  Of course, that’s something I’ll have to try on because I know exactly how I want them to fit and how long I want them to be.

It’s about time

When we moved into this house (over a year ago), the kitchen faucet needed to be replaced.  I don’t think it was ever installed correctly because the handle would just fall off.  Anyway, back in February, I went to buy a new faucet, but they were sold out of the one I wanted.  Last week, I finally bought a new one.  Friday evening, David was kind enough to install it for me, and OMG I love it.  I love that it doesn’t fall apart.  And I love that the cold water stays on and doesn’t suddenly decide you have enough.  And I love that the sprayer actually sprays and doesn’t just kind of sprinkle out water.  It’s also a little taller than my old one, but it’s not one of those super tall ones.  Overall, I’d say it’s the best purchase I’ve made since the washer and dryer.

This and that and that and this

  • I finally got Woopra installed on here.  It’s pretty cool, even though I forget to start it.  I made David go to this page on his computer, then started chatting with him.
  • The Boy got berries on his hands, then wiped his face with his hand, so he’s got this rash all over one side of his face.  (If you’re my flickr friend, there’s a picture there.)  It’s drying up so it looks much worse, but really that’s better.
  • Friday, Baby Girl’s class has their field trip.  She cried and guilted my mother into going along, which means I have to go to since I needed to borrow her car that day.  I am so not looking forward to that.
  • I’m waiting patiently, but, um…when is my damn tax rebate going to get here?  I want money!!  hehe

Report Card Day

Baby Girl, The Boy No Comments »

A bad day for some kids, but not mine.  The Boy’s lowest grade was an 89 and the rest were 90 or above.  And he hasn’t missed one day of school this year.  Baby Girl doesn’t get actual grades, being in Pre-K and all.  But she does great.  Everything is marked S for satisfactory except one lonely little box that keeps being marked N for needs improvement.  The child can not remember her birthday for anything.  Last report card, she could count to 39 and this time it was all the way to 100.  But her birthday?  She has no clue.  She’ll usually say whatever she thinks the current date is (wishful thinking, I suppose).  So, we’ve make a little sign and hung it up by the front door so we’ll remember to say it every morning and perhaps that’ll make it sink in.  And lucky for me they don’t test them on tying their shoes, because even The Boy can’t do that.  (and he’ll be 9 in two days.  haha)

Yard Sale

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

My mom and two of her friends are having a yard sale in my yard this weekend because I actually live in town and not out in the boonies.  They want to go back to Tennessee in the fall (they went a couple of years ago) and they’re trying to start saving money for the gas and everything.  I’m going to toss in some of the kids’ old clothes and other assorted stuff from around the house.  I’m just letting them keep the money because I don’t want to deal with it, and if the stuff doesn’t sell it’s either going in the garbage or to Salvation Army.  I just want it gone!!

Last night, around 9:30pm or so, I checked my traps and stuff and noticed that the mouse had been into the poison, so I figured it’d at least die somewhere, and then I went to bed. Around 10:15 while I was watching The Family Guy, I heard a trap, so I got up and had indeed killed the mouse. So, I got it out (trap and all into the dust pan) and went back to bed. The bad part is, it was a female mouse and you know what that means. This morning, in one of those sticky traps, was a smaller mouse. So, there’s no telling how many mice are still here. Guess I’ll just have to keep the traps and stuff out.

I’ve cleaned my house more times in the past two weeks than I did the two months prior. It just feels so gross knowing that a mouse was walking around pooping all over the place.

On the bright side, after catching the big mouse last night, I went to sleep and slept all night without being woken up by weird noises. It was nice.

Freecycle

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

I signed up for this area’s Freecycle group on Yahoo! Groups because I thought it’d be cool, maybe get rid of some stuff or whatever.  But it seems like 90% of the people on there are just trying to be freeloaders.  Seriously.  It seems like everyday someone is asking for enough stuff to furnish a house.  Or a free computer.  But not an old computer, it needs to be kind of new.  Today someone wanted a video camera.  They’re always asking for expensive stuff (TVs, washers, dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, computers, web cams, etc.) but only ever offer dogs, cats, or baby clothes.

So, I guess if I need to get rid of some garbage, I could just list it on there.

There is a mouse (some mice, more likely) in my kitchen.  For a couple of weeks it stayed around the table area, for what I don’t know, but there it was.  And it’d escape around the plumbing of the dishwasher under the sink.  Then, for a few days, nothing.  No traces left behind, no noises heard, nothing.  That all changed around 3:00 this morning.  It sounded like the damn thing was trying to escape prison.  I have no idea what it was chewing on, but oh my god, it was loud.  And so, I was up and down for at least an hour trying to either catch it or scare it away.  And then it decided to stop chewing and just walk around under the cabinet making scurrying noises.  Either way, I was up from around 3:00am to at least 5:30am listening to it.  I am the walking dead today.

Today, I’ll be making a trip to buy some more mouse traps, and I’m not going to be nice and get the sticky ones this time since they don’t work.  I’m going to catch that mouse, and I hope it rots in hell!!

Neighbors

Baby Girl, Home, Life, Me 1 Comment »

Our neighbors are of the “questionable” variety.  Well, not all of them.  One neighbor is an old (very old) lady that lives alone.  She’s fine.  Never bothers anyone, etc.  Another is an older couple.  They’re pretty nice.  Occasionally the man comes over and chats with David.  It’s the offspring of that couple that are questionable.  They live next door to the couple.  I don’t know much about them, but I do know that one of their kids is in jail (I think), and that since he was arrested things seem a lot quieter over there.  Perhaps he was the problem.  I don’t know.  Well, maybe not the entire problem.  The wife and daughter have been over before to borrow the phone (and I assume they got their own, because it’s been a long time since they’ve been here) and they seemed like they were on something (pills, drugs, just crazy, I have no idea).  Anyway, I’ve told the kids not to talk to them, and if they’re kids come over to just come inside (have heard stories/seen the kids in action).

Well, today, Baby Girl was playing outside alone.  I was sitting here looking at the Sunday ads online and someone knocked on the door.  I figured it was Baby Girl since she likes to pretend she’s a visitor (and also just generally get on my nerves by knocking and giggling).  But when I turned around I saw her out the window so it couldn’t have been her.  (This was after I yelled, “what?!?!” all mean-like.  haha)

So, I walked to the door and opened and there stood someone I’ve never seen before.  “Can my two little girls come over and play with her?” she asked.  I just looked at her for minute and then said, “Um, no.”  She looked like WTF? then said, “well, I gave her some candy. Is that okay?”  I looked down at Baby Girl, who was holding a package of Starburst, and I said, “No,” and handed the candy back to her.  She was just looking at me like I was some kind of lunatic.  And I said, “it’s not right since I won’t your girls play here.”  And she finally said, “okay,” and walked home.

I imagine she’s been talking about me or something, because that’s what people do, but guess what?  I don’t care.  I don’t want to have extra kids to worry about, and I don’t want my kids learning things that those kids might be witnessing at home.
